June Wine Tasting Winners


  2007 Gorman Winery "Zachary's Ladder" $29.99
This red blend is led by blackberry and toasty notes, Zachary's Ladder shows a great balance of fruit, oak and integrated tannin. Albeit a "Big" wine at 15% alcohol, its rich and creamy texture makes it a very hedonistic and very drinkable wine. 

2007 Bieler Pere Fils "Lou Bar Rou" $16.99
A blend of 70% Grenache and 20% Syrah with some Carignan & Cinsault, this wine offers an amazing value for an old-vine Southern Rhone wine at a very affordable price! The name comes from the town of Le Barroux (in Provencal said "Lou Bar Rou"), Where the grapes for this wine are grown.

2007 Twenty Rows Napa Cabernet Sauvignon $19.99
The 2008 Cabernet is crafted from carefully selected grapes to yield an intense, deeply colored wine of concentrated aromas and flavors. Bright black cherries lead the charge, followed by dusty cocoa and roasting coffee beans. Dense texture and a fine sense of balance enhance the pleasing aromatics of blackberry, currants, vanilla bean and dark chocolate.

2007 MacRostie Carneros Chardonnay $17.99
Beautiful pale straw gold in color, the aromas are reminiscent of lime oil and creme brulee. In the mouth there is lush baked apple and ripe mango, with a hint of cinnamon toast. It finishes with a good deal of weight, but still light on its feet.   

2008 Robert Hall Orange Muscat $16.99
A vivid yellow-gold in color, this wine entertains the senses with fresh citrus and orange blossom aromas with a touch of sweet ginger spice echoed by bright, sweet tropical fruit flavors. Medium-bodied, the Orange Muscat features a balancing crisp acidity that brightens the finish. Pair with spicy cuisine, as an accompaniment to dessert or as an aperitif.

2008 J.K. Carriere "Glass" White Pinot Noir $24.99
A lazy summer evening patio is the perfect place for the aptly named J.K. Carriere "Glass" Willamette Valley White Pinot Noir. Yes, white Pinot noir, or rather, an unpretentious, utterly dry and serious rose. It's fashioned in the manner of a turn-of-the-century rose Champagne, with no bubbles, a slight spritz and a luscious ripe sip-of-summer taste.      

2008 Firelands Riesling $10.99
Firelands Vineyards are located on North Bass Island, also called the Isle St. George. This wine is slightly sweet tasting and crisp with banana and apple aromas and flavors that keep singing to the finish.   

2007 Les Trois Couronnes Vacqueyras $14.99
70% Grenache 20% Syrah 10% Mourvedre - The Vacqueyras appellation is just south of the Rhone Valley. This wine has soft fruit aromas with a hint of liquorice. It has soft tannins and is full bodied with a spicy, ripe fruit finish.

The 2008 Provenance Vineyards Estate Sauvignon Blanc shows off layered aromas of white peach, cantaloupe, caramel, vanilla and nutmeg. 2006 Tierra Secreta Malbec $14.99
Deep purple in color, Tierra Secreta Malbec is concentrated and complex. Aromas of ripe red fruit and violet lead to full-bodied flavors of cherries, blackberries and black plum, rounded out with tobacco and spice. Scarlet red with a purple rim. Rich blueberries, blackforest cake and vanilla sugar on nose. Intense dark berry fruit, tar, chocolate and coffee on palate with hints of licorice smoky caramel, raspberry and cherry.

2005 Steltzner Cabernet Franc $39.99
Nice bright red fruit flavors dominate up front giving way to darker notes of blueberries enhanced with vanilla and baking spices.

NV Roederer Brut Premier Champagne $49.99
Louis Roederer has been synonymous with the world's great Champagnes since 1776. Brut Premier is the House's flagship multi-vintage Champagne and its most popular and best-selling wine. It's the Champagne that sets the house style for this esteemed producer. A bouquet of fresh baguette and toasted barrel with a hint of chalkiness. Very citrusy on the palate with lemon and lime flavors laced with youthful acidity. Zesty, dry finish has a steely edge.

2005 Franciscan Magnificat $39.99
Bordeaux blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 2% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet in color with enticing aromas of dark cherry and black plum with a dark chocolate background and notes of sage and black tea. Appealing and complex. Elegant, well-structured mouthfeel, with cherries, rich chocolate, black pepper and vibrant plum flavors filling the palate.

2007 Darting Spatlese Riesling $23.99
This is almost sultry; lots of  deep peach and orange fruit astride a malty spice.

2006 Pierre Sparr Reserve Gewurztraminer $22.99
Light straw color. Rich aroma, lots of the litchee fruit character that's a standard descriptor for Gewurz, with a heady floral backdrop of roses. Unctuous, good acidity; communicates itself to me as rather sweet, but the illusion seems to come from richness, not sugar: Sparr says it contains only 1.3 percent residual sugar.

2007 Uccelliera Rosso di Montalcino $32.99
The Uccelliera Rosso is highly limited in production, featuring an unusually powerful nose. This med-red colored wine is filled with aromas of crunchy dark cherries and black currants, compounded by smoky and tobacco notes. Pure and unctuous in the mouth with loads of fruit and glycerin.

Lustau Capataz Andres Deluxe Cream Sherry $16.99

Seppeltsfiield Cellar No. 9 Muscat $24.99
This Muscat is made from Brown Muscat grapes, harvested at peak ripeness and fortified to give an aromatic spirit lift. Carefully matured in the Cellars at Seppeltsfield, this wine is fragrantly spiced with floral and rose petal aromas. The taste is rich and luscious. Try it with your favorite cigar while eating a little apple crisp with vanilla ice cream!

2007 Cuilleras Visan CDR Village $22.99
This wine is made from 50 year old vines of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah. The town of Visan has hilltop vineyards comprised of clay, stone and lime. The wine is aged without filtration. The apperance is dark ruby with violet highlights. The nose is fruity with some spice. The wine is structured with red fruits on the palate. This wine is made for the cellar. The tannins will soften over the next 5 years bringing the wine into total balance.

2007 Michael-David 7 Deadly Zins $14.99
Notes of sweet plums and pepper dominate the nose, while flavors of blueberry, raspberry, cinnamon, and black pepper pack the palate from start to finish. The silky-smooth tannins hold the wine together and deliver a soft, fruit driven experience.

2005 Concannon Petit Sirah 1.5L $19.99

Concannon Limited Release Petite Sirah is an intense wine with vibrant berry fruits and a rich, full palate. The wine starts with attractive aromas of ripe berries, creamy oak and a touch of spice. 2002 Pacific Estates Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon $18.99
Regal aromas of cherry, berry and cassis, and classical varietal notes of cedar and tobacco leaf are augmented by black pepper and mint. Full-bodied with superb structure, it has intense fruit and cocoa flavors, and a lingering, silky finish.

2006 Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon $22.99
One of the top Chilean Cabernets, aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. Intense ruby in color with red fruits evocations of blackcurrant, chocolate and cigar box, in balance with well-integrated oak (French Alliers fine grained oak). Of great complexity in the mouth, in mid palate is full bodied and balanced with a lasting persistence and a remarkable finish. Although a superb wine as it is, it may also be considered as a great wine for cellaring.

2008 Alexandria Nicole Sauvignon Blanc $17.99

2005 Bianchi "Garey Vineyard" Pinot Noir $22.99

2007 Peirano "The Other Red" $12.99
Aromas of blackberries and plums are complemented by spice, toasty oak and cedar notes. Upon washing this liquid across the palate, a wave of sweet black cherries and boysenberries, with a hint of smoky, dark oak lead to a long, totally seductive, finish. A great expression of this variety, this wine will gently knock your socks off. "The Other" is a perfect accompaniment to a variety of cuisine.

Scagliola Petali di rose Brachetto $22.99
Brothers Maggiorino and Mario Scagliola produce this lightly sweet, frizzante red wine from the unusual Brachetto grape. It unleashes intense flavors of wild berries on the palate, and gorgeous aromas of rose petals on the nose, hence the name Petali di Rose.

2006 North by Northwest Cabernet Sauvignon $27.99
This wine has aromas of blackberry, currant, black pepper, and tobacco leaf. The palate is full of blackberry, caramel, black pepper, currant, anise, and roasted coffee. Enjoy!

2007 Domaine Coussergues Viognier $12.99
Clear yellow color. Intense and fruity bouquet of apricot and pear, white flowers, licorice nuances. Supple and well-balanced, fruit flavors. Excellent with seafood, lobsters and Asian food.

2008 Heidi Schrock Furmint $29.99
The 2008 Furmint from Heidi Schrock in Rust, Austria was one of the most fascinating wines among a sea of Grüner Veltliners and Rieslings. Blooming with acacia flowers and honeysuckle in the effusive nose, then citrus with grapey feline notes and beeswax on the palate sprinkled with gingerbread spices, delivering both savory and fruity in the same gulp, clean acid balance, carrying long and sleek, steely ending with a crisp and dry finish.
